What is Medicare?
Medicare supplemental insurance: Medigap
Sold by private companies, Medicare supplemental insurance plans are also known as Medigap plans. Medicare supplemental insurance plans fill in coverage gaps (such as cost sharing or additional benefits) found in Original Medicare (Parts A and B). Medigap plans allow you to choose any Medicare-certified doctor or hospital regardless of network. You may not enroll in a Medigap plan if you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan.
For information about these and other types of Medicare health plans, visit the Medicare website† or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) (toll free) or 1-877-486-2048 (toll-free TTY for the hearing/speech impaired), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You also can visit your local Social Security office, or call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (toll free) or 1-800-325-0778 (toll-free TTY for the hearing/speech impaired), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
